Jeff and Heather Javens started constructing their winery after Jeff’s father Duane decided to plant a vineyard to grow grapes. Duane was a farmer at heart, so when he retired from the Contracting business, he went back to his roots. The vineyard was established in 2010 and doubled in size by 2012. Three years later, in 2015, Duane and Karmen (Jeff's sister) planted another vineyard nearby that double that again, with the most recent vineyard being added in 2017, for a total of about 8 acres. Duane was the family’s Vineyard Manager until he passed away in 2018, and now Karmen has taken over the role.

Our entire family has been involved in the vineyard in some form, from planting and watering to pruning and harvesting.  It has been a great opportunity to instill a work ethic into our kids.

Heather signed on as wine maker, but little did she know that avoiding chemistry in college would come back to haunt her! So back to college for chemistry classes! Jeff was in charge of all the equipment and licensing, and, come harvest, kept things running smoothly on the crush line until he passed away in 2017.

 

Off and on throughout the year we have a lot of additional family help from kids, siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. And, it is most definitely all hands on deck during harvest time! We can always tell when it’s getting close to harvest time because the kids eat more and more grapes while walking through the vineyard.

 

Our tasting room opened the summer of 2016, with the hope that if things go well we plan to expand to a larger tasting room in the future.  It has been a slow process as we balance this with our busy family life but we will continue to nurture our kids and our winery for many years to come.
